Cable lockout

Cable Lockout is a safety device used to lock out equipment and machinery, often used to lock out electrical equipment, valves, and other energy sources that require isolation. It is part of the Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedure and is designed to ensure that equipment does not accidentally start up during maintenance or repairs.

Key features of Cable Lockout:

Flexibility: Cable lockout consists of a strong steel or plastic cable that can be wrapped around equipment or valves of all shapes and sizes, providing greater adaptability.

Multi-lock function: Many cable lockout designs allow multiple locks to be used at the same time, ensuring that multiple workers can work safely on the same equipment.

Durability: Typically made from corrosion-resistant materials that can withstand the wear and corrosion found in industrial environments.

Easy to Use: Relatively simple to install and remove, allowing for quick application and removal.

Visibility: Many cable lockout devices feature bright colors (such as red or yellow) to increase visibility and alert staff that the device is locked.

How to use Cable Lockout:

Identify Device: Determine the device or machine that needs to be locked.

Turn off the device: Follow the correct procedure to shut down the device.

Isolate energy sources: Disconnect or isolate all energy sources (electricity, pneumatics, hydraulics, etc.) to ensure that the equipment cannot be started accidentally.

Install the Cable Lockout: Wrap the steel or plastic cable around the energy isolating device (such as a valve or switch) and secure it.

Lock: Fix the lock on the cable lockout to ensure that the device cannot be started. Each maintenance worker can use his or her own lock.

Perform Maintenance: After all locks have been installed and secure, equipment maintenance can be performed.

Remove locks and cable lockout: After maintenance is complete, all staff members remove their own locks and can then remove the cable lockout and safely restart the equipment.

Cable lockout is an important tool for ensuring worker safety when performing equipment maintenance, preventing accidental activation and potential injury.
